Parents' FAQ

The things
parents ask.

Can't see your question? WhatsApp Rich on 07974 202776.

What should my kid wear?
Comfy clothes they can move in, and trainers with flat soles - skate shoes are ideal but any flat trainer works. No sandals, crocs, or chunky boots. Long socks help if knee pads are involved. Hair tied back if it's long.
Is protective gear provided?
Yes - helmets, knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards are available at every lesson at no extra cost. We strongly recommend kids wear the full set, especially when they're starting out. You're welcome to bring your own gear if you'd prefer.
What if they've never skated before?
Perfect - that's exactly who beginners sessions are for. We start with how to stand on the board safely, how to push, how to stop, and how to fall well. No prior experience needed. Most kids are pushing around confidently by the end of their first lesson.
What age can they start?
We take skaters from age 5 across every session - group lessons, 1:1s, ladies and adults. There's no upper limit either.
Do you cater for SEN students?
Absolutely. Rich has years of experience coaching SEN students one-to-one and in small groups, and works regularly with schools and council youth programmes. Get in touch and we'll find the right session - or arrange a private lesson tailored to your child.
How do payments and missed lessons work?
Payments are generally taken on the day at the park. If your skater can't make a class for any reason, please WhatsApp or Instagram message us so we can free up the space for another skater.
Do you do birthday parties?
Yes - 1-hour fun sessions for groups of 8 to 16 kids at £10 per child. Held at a park you choose, with a coach and all equipment provided. Skatepark packages are also available with food and park time included - get in touch to enquire.
How do I book?
All lessons are booked online via Bookwhen. Click any 'Book' button on this site or go straight to bookwhen.com/happyskateboarder. Prefer to chat? WhatsApp Rich on 07974 202776.
